I am Fit ‘n Right at the Fit ‘n Right Fun Run

Just Fight!

Proud to be at the Finish LineIt has been 6 months since I joined a 10K race.  The Southern Run in Alabang was indeed a great opportunity for me to improve my Personal Record which is 1:08:XX.  After that, I joined races more than 10K.

IE8, 8mi, Men’s Health All Terrain Race, 15Km Mizuno Infinity Run, 15Km.  There was even a month where I joined almost all the 21Km races; three Milo Marathons (Elimination in Manila, San Pablo and the Finals). I joined Globe Run for Home, Ecodash, RotaRun and even joined a Full Marathon in Subic and The Philippine International Marathon.

Now, since it’s been a long time, I decided to go back to 10K once again in order to see myself at a shorter distance.  I am in fact eyeing for a Sub-60 (10K in less than 60 min).  Without vacillation, I signed up for Fit n Right Fun Run. Mall of Asia Grounds would be a perfect place for a new PR (Personal Record) because it’s a flat surface.  Yes, the route could be boring since it’s a double loop but I find it a good thing because at least I could at the same time have a PR for my 5K.

Arriving at the location, I was astonished at the number of folks who joined; despite of what happened in race kit redemption, the event was still jam-packed, but what really flabbergasted me was the fact that the Kenyans were still here.  It’s been weeks now since the last international marathons. Sigh,  I hope I can still have a chance against them… I hope our elite runners could still stand a chance against them…

The 1st Loop

Bang! Did I hear it right??? The race has just started without even counting and telling us? While there were still instructors performing their exercise? Oh, well, maybe I should go now with the flow.  I ran as fast as I could. Yes! Positive split.  No water breaks (Okay I drank at the 2nd and 3rd station), No walk breaks… Ran the best as I could but my right leg started to restrict me from running at the 4th Km.  I decided to ignore it and just slow down for a bit until it went away. At this pace, Anthony Pangilinan and Jamie the Bull Runner outran me eventually. I tried to catch up with the latter but it seems that I still have no match against her.  At the 5Km mark my 5Km timed at 26:XX minutes in their clock; a new PR for me.

What happened at the 2nd loop?

I know I still have the energy and decided to move on.  Ulk! Oh no!  There were no more cups in the water station; I just decided to go ahead and don’t bother.  6thKm… No more water… 7th… Not a chance. 8th I was dehydrated… 9th Km… nope… Last Km, I gave all my best and realized that I just finished the race in 53:40. Its unofficial though, but I glad slashing 15minutes from my previous PR.

Despite of the mishaps of the event , I still consider this race an eventful one for me. Even though I did not see my name in the Finisher’s list, I know that I have done my best and fulfilled my dreams.

Next Race… Probably a sub50!

Better Time at Timex

Argonaut and the Finisher Medal by Emil Ancheta
Argonaut and the Finisher Medal by Emil Ancheta

Another race with a timing Chip so I really don’t need to worry hurrying at the starting position. Friends and running buddies were a lot! Mike running his 1st 21K was supported by RJ and Neil; Margaher 2nd by Marky-Mark and Me, Dennis and Pojie to pace Carol on her first.

All of us ran smoothly on the road. The race started early like 5:15AM so I’m sure that we won’t need to worry again about the scorching heat of the sun at 7AM or 8AM. I was really amazed that I am part of the team who’s pacing Carol; honestly, I am afraid of the thought of pacing her because I never doubted her strength right from the very start. She’s just an awesome and strong and I am just anxious about the thought that I might end being the once who’s being paced.

Come, Km5, Km10… Everything still seems to be normal as if we are just doing an easy run. I told Dennis that I am tired and getting lazy at Km13. I even told them that I want to stop for a while but Pojie and Dennis remind me I shouldn’t and so I moved on…

Dashing Argonaut; whatever that means... lol!Going inside the Heritage was fun too! Nice air breeze and all. Saw Ijose from behind taking walk breaks at each water stations. Last time I was with him was last Milo Finals in 21K last October.  Rodalyn Tañada one of takbo.ph girls was also running her first 21K. Oh, she was definitely remarkable!

Km15. I can still push myself. At that point I can see now that the group is still strong so I decided to move forward. Km18, I decided to do a bit of a walk break, to just at least relax… Haha! What a lazy boy I am; however, upon seeing Zinnia (Z), I got back to my senses and decided to run again. Km20, Carina roaming around from different KM markers gave a cheer and that gave me enough strength to the finish line.

The Pacers... but where is the Carol? lol!

Awesome race, for I have improved my time for more than a minute or two. Gun Time at 2:20:13 and Net Time at 2:18:52. It was an improvement from my previous PR in Ecodash which is 2:21:40. Grabbed a Medal a finisher shirt and freebies afterwards.

Carol on the other hand finished her first Half-Mary at 2:22-ish. Which I believe, she could do better next time. At the finish-line, we waited for more buddies to come… the Master Trio Neil, RJ and Mike with Rosel, and Marky-Mark with Marga followed by DocArt and Cess.

The Quest for the Golden Fleece (PIM, 2nd blast)

Continuation…

The five of us are still together… Even Rod.Runner joined us in our quest… Then, the group suddenly broke at Km 21.  We are still trying to pace with the Team Logan group but I guess we have no match for them.  It was hard for us to maintain a pace with them for new legs came in every 2Kms.  Dennis, who’s the strongest in our group keep the pace with the Logans… I decided to slow down for I still want to spare a couple of strength for myself.

On the road I encountered Hades 1st terror.  It was the wheeled creature with flies (garbage truck).  Imagine pacing with that kind of creature is definitely hard big time!  I suddenly thought of increasing my speed then in order for me to stay away from it…  I overcame at it and eventually take a deep breath of relief.  I was already alone then… I can see the Logans from afar but they were definitely unreachable as Zeus the lightning good keep throwing his bolts of lightning to me… and that made me even more tired as I try to move away from it.  I saw a couple of running friends along the road who were already stuck by his lightning but still try to proceed.  It was remarkable seeing their passion to finish the race.

Tik-tak-tik-tak… The beat of my watch matches with the beat of my heart and my footsteps… I keep on praying to my real God to give mo more opportunity to become strong.  Helios is now showing his full strength as I can already feel the heat making it hard for me to move… Good thing there were pixies at different stations giving us proper hydration.  Also, Pegasus the winged horse was up above with Bellerophon manning the whole event making sure that everyone is safe.

Km 33.  That the time I could almost gave up, and yet all of a sudden, I saw the Nymphs and the demi-gods cheering for me.  One of the Nymphs named Marga gave a banana and offered me ambrosia.  All of their chants indeed bestowed me a boost.  Last 7Km… Last 6Km… The effect of the ambrosia seemed to be very limited… Aaaaaaahhhh! It was Zeus last lightning bolt hit me big time giving me pain in my both calves.  Helios also shone so bright that I could almost not proceed.  It was already giving me a head ache.  I tried to do a run-walk strategy… I am still fighting for it albeit the circumstances.  Not to mention that I am already getting drowsy for I only took 2 hours of catnap the night before.

Last 5Km… Charon, the boatman of the dead waved at me near the bay… He was already ordering me to take the boat and leave… I was already hypnotized but eventually came back to my senses when I saw the team Logan again from afar!  It was another boost to pursue… Last 4Km, 3Km… I can now see the Golden Fleece… Hermes again showed up and whisphered at me to move faster as it will go away at 9:30AM. I tried my best in the last 2Km, but the clock chimed the 5hour cut off when I was at the last Km…The Golden Fleece that I am seeing from a distance vanished right Thanks Tim!before my eyes…  I hated myself at that point… Asking myself how couldn’t I try and push myself even more? I saw Prince the zestful Argonaut before the finish line…Both of us decided to walk. Muse of Comedy Thalia (Lorie) was there to cheer us up in our last stretch.  Both of us ended at 5hours 13min. I saw the other Argonauts in the finish line…  The team Logan all happy about their successful Marathon Relay.  Marvin another man blessed by Hippocrates and Timmy, the man blessed by the god of commerce (which is also Hermes) told me that my time will be the new yardstick for their first marathon or probably even better.  I know it will be hard but achievable.  5:13:00 that is…

I was happy but not euphoric for I did not beat the cut off time.  Hermes tapped me at my back and said that I have done a good job and flew back up in the sky to go back to Olympus.  Ares, Cupid and Athena were there too and disappeared right before my eyes after congratulating me.  Hades turned his back as he was not able to defeat me… Zeus also amazed at my performance and determination despite of what he has done… The Golden Fleece will still be there and my quest for it will continue and the epic of the Argonaut will move on…

It was Athena the Godess of Wisdom and Eros the god of love and passion who strained me to join the Philippine International Marathon. I was on my slumber the night after the Subic International Marathon when the gods visited me. Athena had informed me that I was cheated in the last race. Poseidon the god of water intentionally sabotaged the race for he loathed Subic so much for an unknown reason. He had instructed Apollo the god of light to remove all the light as he much as he could that night to ensure that all men will really suffer that night. I couldn’t argue with the goddess… She must be telling right, but it was Eros who done it all. He pointed his bow and arrow on me and streaked me with it and my passion for marathon once again came alive.

Yes, I, once again joined the marathon in my attempt to search the Golden Fleece. I am anxious thinking that I might not be able to conquer it because Helios, the sun-god will be there to scorch the land. Zephyr the west wind for sure would not be able to stay long because he has no match against the sun-god. Days passed with anxiety… but the day before the race. Ares the god of war and Hermes the god of swift visited me while I was busy getting my bread and butter. Ares gave me one of his leggings marked as transition one and a visor marked as Milo. Then Hermes lent me his winged shoes; and so the argonaut gained his courage….

The day came… Men and Women from different walks of life were there. That day I have also seen the other Argonauts. Topher the man blessed by Hippocrates, the father of medicine. Pojie, the man blessed by Athena’s wisdom. Dennis blessed by Poseidon because he never ran out water. Gab the man enlightened by Vulcan the god of fire. All of us were gathered there for a common goal… to battle against our greatest enemy which is Fear and to get the Golden Fleece.

The race started and all of us soared from Km 0 with passion and conviction. I ran alongside with Gab that moment and realized that Pojie and Dennis were with us. Dennis declared that he will be pacing us achieving a 5 hour goal. I was delighted by his proposition and so I agreed.

Kilometers passed until James that we saw from afar declared that he could no longer moved on because he was struck by Zeus lightning bolt in his knees giving him an ITB… and so the four of us moved on.

Upon doing a steady pace, we were able to see Topher and eventually decided to pace with us. Along the road, Team Logan who was doing a relay overtook us. They must have been blessed indeed by all of the gods…

to be continued…
