Today is my 2nd anniversary of my running passion. it all started in Drew Arellano’s Happy Run where I ran bandit! I didn’t look back after that and continue with the thing I started to love. I had my first and second marathon before my 1st year ends and on the 2nd phase, I unfold new stories and beat myself over and over again! Haha!
Condura Marathon – I hit my first sub 5 on a marathon at 4:58. You’ll never see my name though because it was under a name of a dear friend who inspired me to beat her! Unfortunately, she was just too good for me.
Bataan Death March – My first ultramarathon. A 100k’er. Who would ever thought I could finish?
TNF50 – A month after BDM I joined a trail ultramarahon but decided to run just half of TNF’s cocktail. Thanks Ellen for pulling my leg to join. This is indeed the hardest race I’ve joined to date. PAU Races Baldrunner’s ultra race in different province is breath-taking. Unexpected terrain but I could say awesome!
Marathon, marathon, marathon! Oh boy I joined 3 more marathons! Milo, CamSur and QCIM. PR to beat now is 4:51.
Multisport- I dread water! I dread biking, but for the love of the game, I tried and was able to improve myself! Ateneo Aquathlon, AAA Cup and NAGT Super-Mini Tri.
PR’s – I hit my 10k at 52 mins now. I haven’t tried sole 5k but I dd a pretty much good split at 24.
Fat Ass Run totally came to me by surprise. Fat Ass King is the tittle I may have to carry for all year round!
Yeah I’m good ain’t I? On the other hand, there were a lot of people behind my success… Takbo.ph friends, Team CB, my family and of course, God! Who and Where is the fat-assed argonaut without them… Oh well, i am Looking forward again for the phase 3 of my running passion! Wherever life is taking me this time, i’m sure it will be another story to tell. Until then…
Cheers to a promising New Year ahead! The best is yet to come…
Amazed this year!
Whoah! I just realized that 2010 is almost over. I am just counting hours and ready to welcome a new year ahead. It was indeed an awesome year for me, bittersweet moment. Considerably, this year is a blast on my passion for running and on my career as well although not everything was something to rejoice like my father’s death last February.
On Ultra Races.
After joining Condura, then Bataan Death March, I never looked back. It followed with a series of Ultra Marathons and Marathons month by month
which I loved so well. TNF was the most remarkable race I’ve joined so far where my will power was tested more than BDM despite that it is only a 50Km race. I ran, I had a hard time, I had blisters and pain; I cried and laugh at the finishline savoring victory after each race and hurriedly go to my office for I don’t have anyone to replace me for sometimes.
Hah! It was my most travelled year as well (Not sure though). I went to Ilocos to run, in CamSur where we were conned by a not so famous event organizer and even being dithced out in the island. Hiked in Batangasand in Rizal to train for a Climathon in Baguio (TNF). I was on training and racing and at the same time enjoyed everybit of it despite of all the mishaps that occured. I wish I could go back and even travel more around the Philippines. Hope I can pin Batanes next year.
At last, I hit my PR at work last May where I officially became a certified technician after fearing so much of taking the examination. Good thing I gripped my balls so much so that they would not fall and put it back into places the moment it was over. Lols! Most importantly, I got the chance to go to Abudhabi to visit our office there, in Dubai where we have an office as well, Spent a day in Singapore to at least have fun during transit and in Malaysia in an hour to enjoy every bit of it.
I mentioned in last blog too about getting an employee award. Hmm… I wonder what will happen to me next year. Jeez!!
I am so excited!
Lastly, No Sick-leave for me this year. Tell me more about Work-Life Balance.
T’was three years streak that I won something in the office. From Cellphone (2008) to Aircooler (2009) and a DVD Receiver this year! Oh boy, I am really a lucky guy. Oh well, I think I deserve it after loosing 3 cell phones this year (Stupid me!)
On Responsibilities and Volunteering
I co-hosted 4 events this year! A company event, The Takbo.ph Anniversary where I get the chance to meet DJ Chloe, The” Takbo Mo Tanglaw Ko” fun run for the Aetas and the Takbo.ph Year End Party. Seriously, given a chance, I would love to do more of it! Also, I am really proud that I became a part of Adination of Runners sponsored by Adidas. It was a tough work I guess but I loved it. Saturday Mornings and Fridays Nights in Tiendesitas were eventful. on this, I would like to thank Adidas and takbo.ph for the opportunity that you have given me;and to my friends (especially Team CB) who were always there to support me.
I am glad that most of you guys had improved physically.
I have joined series of 2 Aquathlon this year. Ateneo Aquathlon (I don’t know how to swim yet at this point) and AnR Alabang Aquathlon. I really improved in my swimming skills although I still have a lot to learn as far as techniques are concerned.
Eventually I was able to join a Super-minisprint event. Thanks again to a good friend Doc Art who never
stopped believing in my capabilities. Doing a week of Biking after so many years is not easy. Lol!
Again, what an awesome year. Hope I can equalize it next year or even move further. How about checking my lovelife next year? Hehe!
Victory belongs to the most persevering. – Napoleon Bonaparte
Whatever what you’ve been through… All the pains and struggles, the efforts, the beaten zombie-ish body and the “almost defeated face”… All of it… Will eventually turn into bliss when you finally found the finish line…
But when that day had passed, the insignia of triumph on the other hand will bring it back into vivid colors, like you were time warped…
At the end of your day dreaming you’ll realize… Oh what a crazy guy you are, but then again, you would always want to go back…
Insanity is a sane response to an insane situation.
T’was 3AM when the race started. I accompanied Ayette (one of our takbo.ph friends) at the first part of the race. We have decided to take it easy for the mean time and just walk because we knew what lies ahead on the trail; we were doing fine and dandy at the first few Kilometers even if the two of us decided to wait for our friends who got lost in the trail; however, things were tougher than we thought as we face harder and harder trail. I can’t believe were doing this… knowing that we will be climbing at Mount Sto Tomas.
Seeing our friends for support is indeed enlightening. They have provided food and hydration before we enter camp 6 going to the radar station; before the hardest part of race begins. I can see Ayette’s fatigue at that time so I keep on asking her if she was okay. I proceed when I see her nod. Along the path going up, I felt that I am getting tired as because heat and gravity is pulling us like crazy… On one of the steepest trail of the race, I talked with one of the marshals and informed him that I still have a friend going up before I eventually moved. I suddenly become worried of the time because it was almost noon and I haven’t reached the summit. I was worried and at the same time guilty of what I did.
Noon. Summit. I ate lunch and spent 20 minutes and then I galloped. Until I saw another set of takb.ph friends. It was Ellen, another Ellen and Tracy. All of us were doing it easy thinking that the race is almost over. We even had a picnic at the middle of the trail and talked about stuff until my phone swung from my bag’s pocket and eventually got lost.
Before 4PM, I was alone again when I got back to Camp 6… I asked one of the marhalls on the route and mentioned happily that I need to go back from where I started?! I shouted in disbelief! WHAAT??! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I DON’T THINK THE DISTANCE IS RIGHT ANYMORE! IT’S NOT FAIR! Yes, I ranted, but moved despite of my tantrum. I have to finish this! Tired and Zombie like I am, but I am still thinking… thinking to finish… I met a few takbo.ph friends on the road and waved at them just to acknowledge their presence… Some of them are even crazier doing 100 Km…
7:17PM. I reached the finish line… I was greeted by friends, Doc Art, Cess and Ayette, who tried to conquer TNF were there to congratulate me…Lorie, Cindy, Chelly and Venus, (our supporters) were there too. Carly, Jai, Eric were cleaned up after finisher the race early.
10PM, I was in the bus terminal for going back to Manila. I hate it, but I have to personal matters to settle. I slept at the bus soundlessly until the next terminal…
TNF, a race that really tested my own limits… It was another humbling experience…and indeed a Walk to Remember of sane people in an insane situation…
After looking back to all the races I’ve joined, I’d like to make a few on all the exceptional I believe I encountered… Let’s get the ball rolling on all the awards!
REACH FUN RUN,– Oh yeah! This is the friendliest of the year for me; a two-loop 5Km fun run and one would need to stop to eat four Krispy Kreme Donuts. . Despite of the number of runners of the event, I can feel the air of happiness among runners. Organizers still has to learn a lot in organizing a fun run but they let us feel that the race is fun. *Special mention to Rizal Day Run for the Ice cream, Beer and Boodle Fight.
TAKBONG MAY YABANG 4.4K, 8.8K – I’ve never seen such race like this before. There’s two loops and four loops of UP oval that’s just 2.2 Km per loop making it a little odd for me.
ADIDAS KOTR – I don’t think anyone would give a violent reaction. Yeah it’s the best singlet! The only problem is that I looked so dark in this singlet because of its neon color. Too bad I failed to run on this event because of Subic International Marathon. I was registered for 21K. • Special mention to Nike Human Race singlet.
MOST SUPRISING RACE
SUBIC INTERNATIONAL MARATHON – This could be my worst race but instead I changed it as most surprising race. Did anyone think the organizers would mess up on this event? And who would have thought they won’t provide something to quench the runners thirst in the middle of the dark not to mention that it’s 42K! Surprising isn’t it?
SUBIC INTERNATIONAL MARATHON –Despite of the surprising mishaps, I would still think that they have my respect as they have the best medal in my collection. If only I’m at Mayon Trail Run… • Special mention to Quezon City International Marathon
MOST GENEROUS RACE
FIT N RIGHT RUN – Loot bag full of Del Monte Products! That what Fit ‘N Right fun run has making it to be the most generous race. Mommy Milk Shake and Buddy Run could also be a contender but too bad I was not able to enjoy it due to my failure to wake up early.
MOST CHALLENGING RACE
CONQUER CORREGIDOR – Hills! Lot’s of steep hills! A 10 mile Challenge where in one dealt with steep hills. That’s what Corregidor has making it the most challenging for me. • Special mention to Celebrity Run for the race covered hill as well and that unforgiving 1.2 Km excess.
BEST TRAIL RUN
THE NORTH FACE 100 – This could be the most challenging race for me only if I joined 100K. Yet I’ve decided to run only the 20K version for me to enjoy the beauty of Sacobia Park in Clark Pampanga making this my best Trail Run Ever to date.
BEST ROAD RACE
CONDURA RUN, RUN FOR THE WHALE SHARKS – It was definitely a dream come true running in the skyway and the race made it possible for all of us. I got injured though after the race but it was the most delightful experience I had last year!
There you have it! I’m sure this year would be promising now that running in the Philippines had boomed! Bring it on 2010!
